ABOUT US
Mission Hill Link
The Mission Hill Link Bus (commonly known as The Link) provides a vital service for the residents of our community and has done so for over 45 years.
The Link has an all-volunteer board and no paid staff; it exists to operate a transportation system
for the benefit of residents, workers and visitors of the Mission Hill area in the City of Boston.
The Link was founded in 1977 in response to a neighborhood survey by the Mission Hill Planning Commission: residents wanted expanded and improved local transit options. Since then, the Link has served the Mission Hill community, enabling staff and visitors to get to and from New England Baptist Hospital without adding to the traffic in the area, for elders living in Mission Hill to stay in this community and live full lives, and for residents to patronize the shops and Farmers Market from Brigham Circle to Roxbury Crossing, along Tremont Street and Huntington Avenue, and easily convey their groceries and other purchases home.
The Link is a viable option for those with few reliable and affordable alternatives: neighbors or family members may not have cars or the time to help, store delivery is not available, and public transportation does not serve streets off the main thoroughfares. Other alternatives include taxis or ride share services, both much more expensive, and The Ride, which is both more expensive and less convenient.
We continue to work to increase efficiency, reliability and convenience for Link riders. Many of our riders live at Mission Main and Alice Taylor/Mission Main Extension, and find alternative transportation particularly expensive and difficult to access.
Our Goals are to:
To continue to improve the Link, a service that provides essential transportation to all residents of Mission Hill, to our elderly and lower income residents in particular.
To accommodate new residents, and especially the residents of new affordable housing in the Mission Hill community.
To maintain an efficient route through a timed route with designated stops and to simplify the process of catching a ride on the Link.
To maintain GPS tracking of the bus at www.wheresthelink.org, enabling riders to see where the Link is at any given moment.
Continue to promote the Mission Hill Link to local residents and thus increase ridership.
